What makes this piece special

A small guest at your tea table.

In China, tea pets have been part of the tea ceremony for centuries. They sit on the tea tray and receive the rinse or the last drops from the pot at every session. Our crab has a special moment of its own: pour hot tea over it and its shell turns from deep bronze to a bright apricot. As it cools down, the dark tone returns. The hotter the water, the longer the colour lasts.

Why a crab?

In Chinese, the word for crab (xiè) sounds almost the same as the word for harmony (xié). That is why the crab stands for balance and good company at the table. With its eight legs and the row of lucky coins on its back, it is also seen as a symbol of good fortune arriving from every direction.

How to use it

Place the crab on your tea tray or in a shallow dish. Pour the rinse of your Pu-erh or the last of the pot over it and watch it change colour.

Care

Rinse with clear water only and let it dry. Not dishwasher safe; no detergents.

Gekauft habe ich die Nadel, weil sie nicht so spitz ist. Bei sehr hart gepressten Kuchen gibt es sonst Verletzungsgefahr. Trotzdem kann man damit gut den Tee aufbrechen. Die Nadel ist sehr schwer.
