This collection is for you if you are interested in differences between teas and deliberately want more choice. The two additional sheng teas complement the Ritual set's mild, fruity and earthy facets with umami, spice and woody notes. The focus is clearly on sheng: 500 g sheng meets 50 g shou.

Understand Pu-Erh without any prior tea knowledge

Pu-Erh is tea from Yunnan in China. In this selection, you will discover two styles: sheng often displays lighter, vegetal, floral or fruity facets; shou usually has a darker, earthy-woody character due to its accelerated fermentation. Not every Pu-Erh tastes the same, and there are also clear differences within each style.

Your first tasting

Begin with Jin ke, Bingdao, Purple Beauty and Xi Gui to get to know the selection from Your Pu-Erh Ritual. Then compare Yi Wu Wan Gong with Ban Zhang Golden Liqueur: umami and floral citrus notes meet spice and wood. It is better to take your time with two teas than to drink all six one after another.

How to prepare the teas

Carefully loosen a small portion from the edge of the cake. For the sheng cakes included: use 4 g per 300 ml of water at 85–90 °C. First rinse for about 5 seconds and discard the rinse water. Then steep for 2 minutes and pour off the infusion completely. For subsequent infusions, steep for a further 30–60 seconds each time, according to taste.

Jin ke: Rinse one mini portion (5 g) for about 5 seconds and discard the rinse water. Add 200–250 ml of water at 95 °C and steep for 5–7 minutes. For a lighter flavour, steep for less time. Then pour off completely; the leaves can be infused again.

Ingredients and composition

Ingredients of all six teas: Pu-Erh tea leaves (Camellia sinensis). The set contains 500 g sheng and 50 g shou. The flavour notes mentioned, such as honey, fruit, tobacco or cedarwood, are tasting impressions and not added ingredients.

Storage

Store the teas in a dry place, protected from light and moisture and away from strong odours. Keep the varieties separately in their respective packaging. This allows you to compare them deliberately again later.

What is the difference from Your Pu-Erh Ritual?

The collection contains all four teas from Your Pu-Erh Ritual in the same quantities. In addition, you receive one 100 g cake each of Yi Wu Wan Gong 2021 and Ban Zhang Golden Liqueur 2020. There are 550 g instead of 350 g in total, and six varieties instead of four.

Do I need to have tea experience?

No, but the collection is intended for people who deliberately want more choice. For your first overview, we recommend the smaller Your Pu-Erh Ritual set. Choose the collection if you are especially curious about different sheng profiles.

What is a tea cake?

A tea cake consists of pressed tea leaves and is not a cake to eat. You do not prepare the whole cake at once; instead, loosen a small amount from the edge each time. The remaining leaves stay in the packaging for later preparations.

How long does the set last?

At a calculated 5 g per preparation, 550 g provides approximately 110 preparations. This is a guide, not a fixed number of cups. Depending on the variety and desired intensity, you may use different amounts of tea; subsequent infusions of the same leaves are not included.

Are honey, fruit or caramel added?

For the teas in this set, these terms describe tasting impressions. The ingredients are Pu-Erh tea leaves. The flavour notes mentioned are not added honey, fruit or caramel ingredients.

Do I need a special teapot?

No. A heat-resistant cup or pot, a sufficiently large tea strainer and hot water are enough for the tea leaves. It is important to separate the finished infusion from the leaves. Teaware and accessories are not included in the set.

Does Pu-Erh contain caffeine?

Yes, the Pu-Erh teas included contain caffeine. We do not provide an exact amount per cup, as this depends, among other things, on the variety, dosage and preparation. If you are sensitive to caffeine, start with a small amount.

What should I do if the tea tastes too strong?

Reduce the steeping time or use more water or fewer tea leaves for the next infusion. With sheng, it is worth observing the recommended water temperature. A bitter flavour does not automatically mean that you prepared the tea incorrectly.

Are six different growing regions included?

The set contains six different teas, not six growing regions that are guaranteed to be entirely separate. You can find the relevant origin details for each individual component.
