Hunan: The Heartland of Rare Yellow and Dark Teas

Hunan’s misty mountains and fertile valleys have given rise to some of China’s most cherished and distinctive teas. Best known for the legendary Jun Shan Yin Zhen—one of the world’s rarest yellow teas—and the deeply flavorful Anhua dark tea (Hei Cha), Hunan is a region steeped in tea history. Tea gardens here thrive at elevations around 800 meters, nourished by rich soils and a gentle, subtropical climate. The unique “men huang” process of yellow tea imparts a golden hue and a delicate, honeyed sweetness, while the famous Fu Zhuan Cha dark tea develops complex flavors through time-honored fermentation.
