What makes this piece special

Porcelain art from Dehua, painted with motifs from the Silk Road.

This gaiwan is fired in Dehua, known as China's porcelain capital. Its cream-white glaze follows the tradition of the Ru kiln and contains agate. Over time and with regular use, a fine crackle known as "cicada wing" slowly appears in the glaze. Your gaiwan keeps changing and shows a little more of its story under every light.

Three motifs to choose from

  • Gold & silver scrolls: ornamental tendrils in gold, red and pale blue, inspired by the art of Dunhuang
  • Dunhuang lotus: the lotus as a symbol of purity, in a classic floral design
  • A thousand li of mountains: blue-green mountain peaks after the famous Chinese landscape painting

The motifs are applied as high-temperature underglaze colour and accented by hand with gold.

The classic three-piece gaiwan

Lid, bowl and saucer – the core vessel of Chinese Gongfu tea. The well-proportioned rim lets you pour without burning your fingers. Suitable for Pu-erh, oolong, black and green tea.

Care

We recommend washing by hand with warm water. The fine crackle is part of the glaze's character and not a defect.
